Dear XTC,
Thank you for this day. Not a lot is going on. I’m getting over my cold I think. It’s been about four or five days. As I’m writing this, I’m thinking of what to share with my readers. I’m 34 years old, I have a B.A.Eng, and I love to write. The problem with only writing is that you can’t do it forever. You have to read, or else consume media of some kind in order to refill the well. I’ve had months of block before, like last year when I was working on a comic a week. It was a lot of fun, but it had a cost because I didn’t refill my well. Maybe it’s like a fish pond? I think someone said that. If you only fish, and never replenish them, you’ll run out of fish. Or if you don’t plant seeds, or don’t give the earth a chance to rest (lay fallow), then it won’t matter how hard you work. You’ll simply exhaust your resources, or because of poor planning, have no crops.
So what do you want to know? How to make comics? I can teach you that from the perspective of an amateur (only been doing it 3 or 4 years now). I can teach you how to run/play tabletops. I can make you art or write for you.
What I have learned from this, and hope to remember, is that Sabbath is a good thing. Resting every once in a while, preferably one day a week, or perhaps 2 hours and twenty minutes a day (if you can’t rest a whole day), will recharge your batteries and help you maintain your velocity.
“Those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength, they will soar high on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, walk and not faint,” (Isa 40:31)
So unless you want a cold or another health consequence, get your rest. You can’t help anyone if you’re exhausted, and it will affect your emotions, your mind, and your heart.
