In lieu of a Comic post

Okay, so this is my post to you, my friends and family, about what’s up with the comic situation.

I’m feeling a bit blocked, and I know why. I alternate between creating content for tabletops (Mutants and Masterminds for instance), and creating comics. It’s like my mind can only handle one or the other. Right now I’m reading the mecha/manga premise Big Eyes Small Mouth, and supplemented with the Tenchi Muyo RPG. I’m working on an idea for a campaign. Here’s the problem: My schedule doesn’t really permit for playing them. The only night I have off is Monday, and it’s reserved for bible study. However, I feel that a bible study is more profitable and meaningful than a night of storytelling, even if it’s excellent. * sigh *

So, one thing you should know about my letters and blogs. I typically start them off as Dear XTC,

Here’s the back story. I was writing journals entitled Dear God, and I was doing this in Peru on a mission trip (God bless the Quevedos and the Palmers). The Peruvian college students had seen a video entitled, “Dear God,” by XTC, a band of atheist members. It basically rejects God because of the presence of evil in the world.

I guess I decided to redeem the letters XTC. X, before Christ, t, cross, and C, Christian. I write Dear XTC instead of Dear God. Is it less honest? No, I don’t think so, simply because anyone who reads them for any length of time will come to that conclusion. It might get someone to read a Christian blogger who would never normally set foot on such a website.

So, I guess I need to make a character for BESM (Big Eyes Small Mouth), maybe. What I was thinking is using similar settings for the comic Frost and Friends, in which some supernatural creatures get together with a mostly human friend and play tabletops. So it’s kind of like a framework story in which I can insert new material without messing with the canon or continuity. So that’s what I plan on working on when I get back to the comic. I did a video of me making a comic, and would love to do that each week. Maybe not this week, but soon. It would be super cool for God to allow me to fully implement Patreon as a source of income, but I’m beginning to see a problem with that. With A., I’m a cashier, and that’s a job that doesn’t depend on the popularity of my content. I can create content with this job that I couldn't create if I were afraid of offending people with a Christian world view. Not that I want to be offensive, but my perspective is unique. I’m also a conservative heterosexual white male Christian. So every identity I have is the “majority”, 'the man”, or whatever.

I’m not upset by that. I fully expect people to judge me because of those things, especially the Christian identity. I don’t promote men, or white people, or conservatives. “In Christ there is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free,” Christ gives us an identity that links us to every other Christian regardless of nationality, sex, skin color. My people are Christians. I’m part of a much larger family that has a family tree extended back, arguably to Abraham, if Romans is read and believed (which I do).

Wow, that was a lot. So, I’m learning more about tabletops right now, and that’s why I’ve not made any comics yet. However, this is fueling my world building, so expect an enrichment of my work through my research. I’ve also got a few surprises I want to try in photoshop/krita. It’ll take some time, but I’m thinking it may enhance the art. So, working on the comic without working on the comic.

Sorry that was so scattered. I tend to chase rabbits when I blog.

Yet I deeply desire to share my testimony, to share the gospel through these word pictures. I have a few comics to that effect, but am working with HS to continue that. Bob, a character in the comics, reads a lot, and his favorite book is the bible. So he’s going to be talking a lot about that with Mordred. Bob I guess is a Christian? Mordred is probably not. However, they’re talking animals, so to be truly Christian or not is not possible as they are not human. However, Bob, a potential missing link, being a witness even indirectly for Christ, I think is brilliant.
