What do you call Him?

Dear Father,

Thank you for this day. Not a lot is going on. I was thinking about the titles of these blogs. I’m comfortable calling you Father or Dad, even Abba I guess. Abba means “Daddy” which I guess I just can’t do in English. It seems too personal, too close. Does anyone else struggle with what to call you? Orthodox Jews don’t use your Name (Tettragrammon), but usually say Adonai. Does that hurt your feelings? For your people, your children to never say it? They write G-d when they are talking about you. I get obeying the Law, or trying to, but it seems a bit sad. Muslims would never call You Father. It’s too personal, right? So where does that leave us? I’m comfortable calling you Dad in my prayers, but on here I use Father so people don’t think I’m talking to my biological father.

You have many names in the Old Testament, Lord Provider, Lord our Banner, Lord of Peace, Lord our Healer. Jesus has many names sharing your name (“I am”) the gate, the good shepherd, the way, the truth, and the life. Throughout history you have revealed yourself in different ways and in increasing measure. Jesus is called the Lion of Judah, and the Lamb that was slain. I have a feeling that when he returns to set up His kingdom, Lion of Judah will be a very appropriate term.

Well, I have some plans today, Lord willing. Please help me to be a light to those around me, to be a useful if not good ambassador for the kingdom.

Love,

Trem
