XTC and More Material for Tabletops

Dear XTC,

Thank you for this day. Not a lot is going on. It’s Sunday, so.. that’s good. Church was amazing this morning. I felt like I was really worshipping, then I felt a little blocked. Not sure what happened except for a momentary distraction, perhaps a fiery dart. I don’t want anyone or anything stealing your worship, and I know you don’t either, so I continued to worship, but it wasn’t quite as good for me. Still, worship is about you, not how I feel. It’s independent of feeling, place, person. It’s the right response to who you are and for what you’ve done.

Anyway, I’ve got a lot of material for Mutants and Masterminds. Old stuff from years ago, sample adventures from the books, as well as plenty of plot fodder. Now I need for Matt and Trevor to make characters. I want the characters to have a friend or relative that is either: 1) a powerful villain 2) a fellow hero 3) a younger weaker hero that needs a mentor. Or perhaps a love interest that know about their powers, or a childhood friend or something. I think that would be a great way to generate drama and give them hero points, plus whatever other complications they may have.

So I guess I’ll use Othello, but we might call it Desdemona, a kind of alternate reality version of my setting. I can borrow from Othello freely. Maybe they’ll even let me use the name Othello. That would be a great way to promote my work, especially if we do a podcast (once we’re all comfortable with the system).

I want to get to work, but I know anything I do now is extra, and may never see the light of play. J. said keep it simple, and he’s right. Just do what we need, and maybe save the extra stuff for my own projects.

I made nine gems that have cosmic powers. I think I’ll call them the nona gems (nona meaning nine), maybe. One of my NPCs has three of them. I’m guessing the other ones will have to be assembled, and if somehow they get all 9 together, something really special should happen (I just don’t know what). Three of them are for creating hero PL weapons, and the other three stem from the Grey Wizard’s powers over space and time. I’m kind of hopeful about it.

Beyond that, there’s so many NPCs I can stat up (or loosely stat up), so many places I can have them explore, so much for them to do. I guess I don’t know if they should be reactionary, reacting to the villain all the time, or if I can open things up, or should open up things for them to explore. Then there’s what they want in terms of setting and plot.

My desire is for three to four people competent in a tabletop system enough that we can rotate GMs. Still, I don’t know how qualified I really am. i may be an english major, but that doesn’t automatically make me a good GM. And they might be better than me, or worse. So there’s a lot to that. I need to just keep it simple. Review one of the adventures (probably the Freedom City one, and then maybe the Emerald City one). In any case, it would be cool to have them vacation in Emerald City and stuff goes down.

More later.
