The book of Romans and the Way to Jesus

Okay, so I wrote out a sermon based on Romans, and realized how inadequate my words are when trying to do this. As a rough draft? It’s hard. This stuff needs to be edited. So instead of quoting scripture, I’m going to let you read it for yourself.

First, advice. If you intend to read the bible, start with the gospel of John. Then read Matthew, Mark, Luke. Next, read the New Testament, Acts through Revelation. Go back, start in Genesis, skipping the genealogies for now. If you follow that reading plan, reading a chapter a day, you will finish in three years.

I was starting with Romans 1:18-28, and without reading the rest of Romans, it will not be helpful to you. Let me try to summarize. We have no excuse for our sin, whatever it is. We know better. The Law makes us conscious of sin, shows us how much we need Jesus.

Now, we can turn to Him, while we have the opportunity, or we can choose not to. That, too, is our decision, and that is on us. Either Christ bears the weight of our sin, and takes the burden off us, or we hold onto that weight, and bear it for eternity.

God again set a certain day, calling it “Today.” This he did when a long time later he spoke through David, as in the passage already quoted:

“Today, if you hear his voice,
    do not harden your hearts.”[a]”

Romans lays out all of human history and leads us to Christ. Will we follow? Or sing the dirge about our lives, “I did it my way”?

Is it not punished?

Rejoice in the Lord Always
