Dear Father,
Thank you for this day. Not a lot is going on. I just finished playing with P. Yesterday was so strange. Was it 2001? 09/11/2001? We thought we were invincible until that day. Nothing like that had happened since Pearl Harbor in December of 1941.
It’s strange, but it reminds us that God is sovereign. When we obey Him, we inherit blessings, but when we rebel, even as believers, his patience is invoked. He will slowly take away the blessings, the protection, the favor, if we do not repent.
Today I went back to Warframe. I feel like I do need to repent. I just find it hard. It shouldn’t be. It’s just so accessible. I was craving it this morning before breakfast, and I gave in. Most people would say that videogames do not equal sin. However, the type of videogame can be. If your character is doing something in game that would be wrong in real life: i.e. 3rd person pistoleering, that’s still wrong, isn’t it? A lot of games, being targeted at males, have a lot of sexual content. It may not be overt, but even 3d models can be a stumbling block, right?
And it cheats us. Cheats us of our most precious resource: time. Cheats us of time spent with loved ones, on constructive hobbies, in extreme cases self-care. I had a friend that played and hadn’t showered in four days. No really, it was a friend, not me. Anyway, yeah, he was so tuned into games that he neglected basic hygiene.
There is that kind of stereotype that gamers smell bad. It’s true sometimes, but not always.
I know it alters your brain waves. I know that it costs money as the old games lose their glimmer, and they are replaced by the shiny new discs (although a lot of them are digital now, so). It seems a shame, but it’s part of my cross I guess. I hope I can witness to people who go through what I go through, but honestly, who’s going to want to hear from someone stuck in the trenches? Wouldn’t they rather talk to an ex-gamer who overcame his addiction to live a productive life? I don’t know, but God is sovereign, and for whatever reason, he is allowing me to play.
